Practical Test
Throughout your lessons I'll be monitoring and recording your progress towards the necessary standard that you'll be required to demonstrate to pass your driving practical test.
When I think you've reached that standard, and only by mutual agreement, we'll put you in for your practical test. The practical test comprises the following:
1. An eye-sight test
2. Two Basic car safety/maintenance questions (the "Show Me/Tell Me" questions)
3. A 35-40min drive taking in a variety of road and traffic conditions to include 2 reversing maneouvres and possibly also a Controlled (or Emergency) Stop
There are 2 driving test centres in Sheffield, 1 in Hillsborough (Middlewood Road Test Centre) and 1 just off the A57 Parkway (Parkway Test Centre). I cover both test centres - we will discuss and agree which one is best for you.
Here's a useful video on the Driving Practical Test from the Driving Standards Agency:

Independent Driving
Watch this video by the DSA to show you how Independent driving will become part of the practical driving test in UK from October 2010.
It's tasking you to drive for about 10 minutes, either following a series of directions, following traffic signs, or a combination of both. To help you be clear about where they’re going, the examiner can show you a diagram too. It doesn't matter if you don't remember every direction, or if they go the wrong way - that can happen to the most experienced drivers.
When Independent Driving comes in the number of reversing maneouvres you will be asked to do will reduce to 1.
